American Tree Farm System
The American Tree Farm System gives private landowners the tools they need to be effective stewards of their America’s forests. It is free to join this great non-profit organization, and your Forest Stewardship Plan gets you in the door right away.  Also, your timber will be certified, which puts it in a premium position in the market, in which sustainability is becoming ever more important.

Excellent book: A Landowner’s Guide to Managing Your Woods

This is the best book we have found to date that covers all of the bases on being a forest landowner – from forest health to timber harvests, working with a forester, property taxes, thinking about heirs to your property, etc.

Michigan DNR Forest Health Web Site
